JDRF Gala

For the past three years, we have made a point to go to the gala hosted by our local JDRF chapter. Besides the fact that we don't get many chances to get dressed up and go out nice, its a good way to support JDRF and as a member of the Board of Directors, I feel like its important to support those events.

Our gala this year was this past weekend.

I was excited, as always, to go to the gala. But, this year I was especially excited. I had a formal dress that I loved, but I hadn't been able to wear for the past few years because I had, (ahem), put on a few pounds. I worked hard this past year to lose some of that weight, and the dress fit again.

So, I went and got my hair dolled up, Mike got a new vest and tie, and we got all dressed up to go to the Gala for our JDRF Chapter this past weekend.

It was a really great event, with good food, and lots of excitment during the live auction. The chapter has already raised over $1M and is working to top it off at $1.2M.

JDRF Gala

A short post now. A longer one later.

Last night we attended the Gala for our JDRF Chapter. After a last minute change in location due to the G20 summit, the event landed at the Mellon Auditorium on Constitution Ave.

I bought a new formal and borrowed some great jewelry from a friend. It was a great cocktail hour and silent auction, followed by dinner and a live auction.

Our Endocrinologist (Dr. Cogan) and our Nurse (Celia Henderson) were both there, so it was nice to chat "outside of the office".

The MC of the event was Amy Robach from NBC. Much to Mike's chagrin, I went up and introduced myself. She used to be on the board of the chapter and has a family connection to Type 1 diabetes. When I mentioned that I lived in Loudoun County, she immediately connected it to the recent election as she was sent here to cover this "swing county" in the "Swing state" of Virginia.

Very tired today from being up late at the party and then late checking Emma.

$200 closer

I have had a pretty good fundraising week - and so has Mike.

I received a couple of big donations this week, quite a few small ones and then today, I set up a table at the local grocery store to collect donations.

I was reminded how much I hate to fund raise. Ick. Just hate it. I can speak to congressmen and legislative aides and ask them to support legislation, but I'm really uncomfortable when it comes to asking everyday people to part with their money.

But I came away $200 closer to my goal. And much of that was at $1 and $2 increments, so it was a lot of people giving a little for JDRF.
